Natural Self-Care Tips for Cozy Living Enthusiasts

Updated: Dec 13, 2024

Hi cozy babes! Let’s talk about natural self-care—a moment of simplicity, comfort, and intentionality. For those of us who cherish a slower pace, a hot mug in hand, and a stack of soft blankets, self-care isn’t about elaborate spa days. It’s about grounding ourselves in rituals that nourish the mind, body, and spirit.

Here are some of my favorite ways to infuse natural self-care into your everyday life, with practical alternatives for when life gets a little chaotic.

1. Create a Cozy Morning Ritual

Wake up gently—no rushed alarms. Brew a cup of herbal tea or matcha to set the tone for the day. My current go-to is an adaptogen-packed matcha latte with reishi and ashwagandha to support focus and calm. Sip it slowly while journaling, reading, or just gazing out the window as the world wakes up.

Let’s Get Real: If gentle mornings feel like a pipe dream, start by heading to bed 20 minutes earlier to carve out a sliver of calm in the AM. Even if your "ritual" is drinking tea in your car, or making time to wash your face with your favorite cleanser, it's about the intention, so start small!.

2. Harness the Power of Nature

Bring the outdoors in! Surround yourself with plants that purify the air and soothe your spirit. Winter days? Snip pine or eucalyptus branches for a natural, refreshing scent. If you can step outside, bundle up and take a mindful walk, noticing the crunch of leaves or snow underfoot.

3. Embrace Seasonal Skincare

Switch to nourishing oils and creams in the colder months. Ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, and rosehip are deeply hydrating. Bonus points if you warm them between your hands before massaging them in—it feels indulgent but takes seconds.

Let’s Get Real: Don’t overthink it! Keep a small bottle of hydrating oil by your bedside or in your bag for a quick fix. Moisturizing on the go is better than not moisturizing at all.

4. Comfort Through Nourishment

Make soups and stews with your best friends. These warming meals are not only comforting but align beautifully with Ayurvedic principles, grounding Vata energy and boosting digestion. Throw in immune-boosting herbs like garlic, ginger, and turmeric for an extra layer of wellness.

Let’s Get Real: If cooking feels like a chore, try batch cooking on weekends or grab a high-quality, ready-made soup from your local farm store or cafe. Try local farms, the one by me makes an amazing chili from home-grown veggies!

5. Light Your Sanctuary

Candlelight is an essential cozy-living accessory. Opt for natural beeswax or soy candles infused with essential oils like lavender, cedarwood, or orange for a calming and uplifting effect. Let the flicker of the flame be your gentle reminder to slow down.

Let’s Get Real: No candles? Use warm string lights or dim your lamps. Even a softly lit screen with a virtual fireplace video can set the mood in a pinch. (cue the war between me and my “big light” loving boyfriend)

6. Digital Detox Evenings

Turn off your devices at least an hour before bed. Instead, sink into a good book, listen to a podcast, or even try a creative hobby, like crocheting. Give your mind and body permission to wind down without the glow of a screen.

Let’s Get Real: If a full detox isn’t realistic, switch your phone to “do not disturb” mode and engage in something mindful, like a bedtime playlist or a coloring book. “Girl moments” by Coco Wyo is a personal fave- SO cute!

7. Bath Time Bliss

There’s no better reset than a warm bath. Toss in Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil. Add candles, soothing music, or silence for the ultimate grounding experience. Let the water wash away the day and restore your balance.

Let’s Get Real: No time for a bath? Opt for a face mask, or a steaming shower with a few drops of essential oils on the floor. Even small acts of care add up.

8. Celebrate Small Joys

Find rituals that feel like small luxuries: the perfect chai latte, an evening of intentional journaling, or wrapping yourself in a soft throw while the rain patters outside. These little moments anchor us to the present and make life feel richer.

Let’s Get Real: Gratitude doesn’t need to be big or extravagant. Even taking 30 seconds to acknowledge a cozy sweater or a sunny window can bring you into the moment.

Natural self-care is about embracing where you’re at and doing what you can with what you have. Whether it’s the full ritual or a pared-down version, the magic is in the intention.

Which of these tips speaks to you? Do you have your own cozy rituals? Let’s swap ideas—I’m all ears (and blankets). 🌿✨
